She reunites with her newly divorced med school friends, Naomi (Audra McDonald) and Sam (Taye Diggs), and joins them in their chic private practice. The series, created by Shonda Rhimes, is produced by ABC Television Studio in collaboration with The Mark Gordon Company and Shondaland Productions. It first aired as an episode of Greys Anatomy. The episode, titled The Other Side Of This Life, was known as a backdoor pilot. It tested the idea of the show, but also shared the plot with Greys Anatomy scenes weaving in and out, from which it was spin-off.
