The truly great flood from the Okavango turns 4,000 square miles of arid plains in a beautiful wetland. Elephant mothers guide their own families on an epic trek along the harsh Kalahari Desert towards it, siphoning fresh water from stagnant pools and facing hungry lions. Hippos battle for territory, as the magical water sucks in 1000s of buffalo and birds, and vast clouds of dragonflies. Will the young elephant calves survive to reach this grassland paradise? The knowledgeable mother elephants time their arrival with the delta to coincide with the lush grass manufactured by the truly amazing flood. In the TV first, the programme shows the way they use their trunks to siphon clean water from the surface layers of any stagnant pool, while avoiding stirring the muddy sediment on the bottom using their feet. Bull hippos also converge on prime territories formed with the rising flood water. Two big bulls do bloody battle, sometimes being lifted outside the water by their rival. Lechwe swamp deer, zebras, giraffes, crocodiles and numerous fish and 1000s of birds arrive in the delta. And, in a phenomenon no time before filmed from the Okavango, 1000s of dragonflies appear - seemingly from nowhere - within a few minutes with the flood arrival, mating and laying eggs. As being the flood finally reaches its peak, elephants and buffalo, at the end of the epic trek along the desert, face the last gauntlet of any hungry pride of lions. In the heart-wrenching sequence, a baby elephant is brought down using a lion in broad daylight.
