The era of early guns lasted for nearly 800 years, from the discovery of gunpowder around the year 1000 to the widespread use of the flintlock musket as late as the 19th century. At their peak, early guns became the dominant battlefield weapon, totally supplanting the swords and lances of armored knights. Galileo and other scientists brought mathematics to the battlefield, ushering in the field of ballistics, while the availability of guns made it possible for many colonists to rise up against their rulers.

Medieval Europe is dying. And while the armored cavalry still terrible in attack, and bow and arrows in the right hands all the more dangerous the gun, the war has changed forever. Under the roar of field guns, grenade explosions and of codfish musket firing produces new army, which swept away the old empires of Europe from the map.
